Looking at a Warped Mirror

It’s pretty sad, really–all the paperweight models with the skinny legs and bony shoulders prancing around as if they’re what all of society needs to be. Image is everything. Take this pill, and you’ll lose your love handles with no side effects, and then make sure you get that plastic surgery to make your nose look more like Natalie Portman’s. With close ties to the consumer lifestyle obsession–buying constant things many don’t really need, certain clothes that aren’t necessary, etc. etc.–the idea that you have to be thin to be beautiful is about as ludicrous as a melting clock face on one of Dali’s paintings. Or one of those warped mirrors at a carnival.

That’s what it is, actually!–warped. When you look into a mirror, you don’t really see the way you really are–you see yourself the way you want to be. Sad to say, that’s not terribly healthy. The truth about health and fitness is that, according to research, ideal weight isn’t about being skinny or completely without fat. You actually need fat, believe it or not. These days, more of the healthy look is one of balance, eating well but also eating healthy. Stay active, and indulge every now and then on the foods you love. Trust that it’s okay!

More importantly, though, is your own self-image. So you might not have as defined a curve on your figure as some other women. it doesn’t matter. Maybe you’re one of the guys who’s not as tall or not as built–not a big deal. Love the person you are; and others will, too. Now that’s the healthy lifestyle to live, so ditch that warped mirror and look at yourself straight.
